El 26 de agosto 2011 fue oficializada en Rio de Janeiro, Brasil la World Judo Federation, WJF, y entre sus primeras acciones fue la de institucionalizar el 28 de octubre de cada año como celebración del nacimiento del Maestro Jigoro Kano, fundador del Judo.
